Baseball Toaster Bad Altitude

The Channel vs. Some Other More-Hyped Inferior Lefty

Hey, this may be an all-time first: There are some guys coming over to my place tonight to watch the Rockies game. Yes, it may have more to do with the fact that my apartment complex has a swimming pool and it's about as hot as it gets in the mountains this week, but this still never happens. As much as I have tried to downplay the Colorado marketing department's attempt to delineate the Yankees series at Coors as somehow different and special and more significant than the other 159 games on the schedule, I have to admit that I am buying into this thing. I want the Rockies to win this game tonight more than I have any regular-season game they've played in ages. I want you Yankee people to know the dazzling variety of pitching programming viewable once every five days on the Francis Channel. I want everybody to know the Kaz Matsui comeback is no longer a rumor or a theory. I want everybody to know that Willy Taveras sucks just as much as I say he does.

Go team! Fight! Win!

I really had no idea that that each of the 6 divisions has had a world series winner in the last 6 years...that's pretty amazing.

Well, the Rockies might get this series, but Casa Bonita is still the worst food on the planet Earth. Take that, Rox fans.

That was about as much fun as you can have watching a regular-season game on standard-definition TV. I'd like to thank Jeff Francis and Kaz Matsui for making me look smart, and the Yankees' infield for pulling in so deep for Willy T that he was able to nub a mighty single through.

Mark, shouldn't you be a Giants fan with all of your "the world revolves around home runs" nonsense? I mean, even if you subscribe to the Earl Weaver theory, you've gotta have two other guys for a 3-run homer.

Well done indeed to the Rockies.

7 The world doesn't revolve around home runs. But scoring runs is an important element of the game, and a complete offensive player should have a modicum of skill at both halves of that equation. One is getting on base, and the other is knocking guys in. Tonight's clutch single aside, I feel little to no confidence when Willy the T comes up to bat with two outs and an important runner on second base. Which happens rather a lot to leadoff hitters, if you think about it.

You get your wish, buddy. Any time anybody can beat the Yankees it's a good day.
