I'm Pretending I'm The Griddle

Bob Geren is the new A's manager.

This does have a Rockies connection: one of the other three finalists for the job was Jamie Quirk, Colorado's bench coach and their go-to interim manager the past few seasons. I am glad to see Quirk not get the job because I think he will make an excellent successor for Clint Hurdle. Not that I am saying Hurdle should be fired. Yet.

Beane loves making the most boring manager choices.

If you were really good, you'd have written your headline as "I'm Pretending I'm The Griddle Pretending I'm Catfish Stew". Then I would have been really impressed.

Kudos to Geren, whom I remember from his days platooning with Don Slaught as Yankee catcher. I remember one year he lost a bet to Mel Hall and Hall shaved Geren's head.

Other than that all I have to offer is that surveying Geren's B-Ref page I've learned that Rollie Fingers was a St. Louis Cardinal for four days in December 1980. I did not know that.
